Evens, an outstanding pianist who does creative but lyrical interpretations of familiar tunes, is joined by two other fine jazz players from UofL's jazz school faculty and a guest trumpeter on a few tunes. They'll be playing music by one of the greatest composers of Standards from the Great American Songbook, tunes like Alexander's Ragtime Band, Blue Skies, Cheek to Cheek, There's No Business Lilke Show Business, I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm, and God Bless America.
This tribute to Irving Berlin playfully twists his classic compositions while always maintaining the brilliant melodies that make his work universally appealing. With bassist Chris Fitzgerald, drummer Mike Hyman, and special guest Ansyn Banks on trumpet, the music is sure to be surprising, interesting, and above all, swinging!
Another listening room show at the Bard's Town sponsored by the Louisville Jazz Society.
